Update expansion Rhederlaag
In early January we toasted with all parties involved to the new year and the official start of work on the redevelopment of the area around De Veerstal.

Planting of new forest
We began planting new forest in mid-December with a rich variety of trees and shrubs. Among the trees planted are oaks, alders, elms, cherries, hawthorns, hazels and blackthorns. The map below shows exactly where the forest was planted. A diverse, future-proof forest can now develop here that contributes to both nature experience and biodiversity.

Ground and excavation work
After the planting work, we started clearing the existing willow forest on the North Bank. This work has now been completed. Subsequently, earthwork started in the area shaded blue on the map. In this area the topsoil will be excavated and new, gently sloping banks will be constructed.
We will use the vacant land immediately south of Recreation Park & Marina De Veerstal to construct the site for approximately 100 seasonal camping spaces.
Kop van Wentink
At the Kop van Wentink we will not start work for the time being. As soon as we know more about when and how work will start there, we will of course inform you via our newsletter and website.
Sand mining not yet started
Sand extraction in the area has not yet begun at this time. However, in anticipation of this, the banks and associated riparian zones are already being constructed according to the prepared development plan. As soon as there is a concrete start date for the sand extraction, we will inform you.
This is what we do it for
Led by K3Delta and Leisurelands, an intensive participation process has taken place over the past few years. Together with local residents, recreational users and other interested parties, a broadly supported development plan has been developed. The result is a plan that contributes to both nature development and recreational quality.
The redevelopment brings clear added value for nature and recreation:
South of Recreation Park De Veerstal there will be nature-friendly banks and bays with mooring facilities for small boats (marked with dotted line at number 1 on the map).
An existing island in the Valeplas will be enlarged and designed as a nature island (number 2).
The Kop van Wentink will have a natural design with sloping banks, expansion of forest and space for nature (#3).
Additional camping spaces will be built on an existing headland for De Veerstal Campground (dotted line at number 4).
With these developments, we are making De Veerstal and its surroundings an even more attractive place to recreate, relax and enjoy nature.
